Hi! I found a book of Sicilian songs for voice and piano on Recital Publications' website. Does anyone here know much about Sicilian music, especially as it relates to classical music? I'm a musician, and I'd like to sing some of these songs on my senior voice recital next semester, if possible. I ordered the book over a week ago; I'm just waiting for it to come in at this point. I'd like to try to verify the text, sources, traditional performance medium, etc. It looks to me (based on info in WorldCat) like the book is written for medium-high voice (range C4-A5), but it's classified as folk song, so I'm not sure how appropriate that voicing actually is given that I'm guessing most folk song would be a bit lower in range (easier for non-musicians to sing) - at least not up to A5! Can anyone help?
